Characteristics of Ma Kwaen
It is a medium sized tree, approximately 5-12 meters tall, with sharp thorns along the trunk. The branches have feathery compound leaves. Even or odd ends appear in alternating order. The leaves are oval or elliptical, with very pointed tips and sharp and deformed bases. The edges of the leaves are serrated and there are small round glands in the serrated areas. Young shoots are red mixed with yellow, very pleasing to the eye. Flowers form large, branched bouquets.
